A six-foot-tall sculpture cast in pure brass, Blue Heron captures the spirit of the great blue heron through Zura’s unmistakable sculptural language — raw, expressive, and full of character. Tall and slender in form, the work carries an elegant presence while maintaining a playful vitality and untamed energy.
The elongated silhouette and richly textured surface give the sculpture a sense of movement and individuality, transforming the bird into something both graceful and deeply alive. Like much of Zura’s work, Blue Heron balances refinement with spontaneity, carrying an emotional force and natural energy that feel immediate and human.
Created in 2015, this work is part of the Estate of the Mitchell family, located on Spring Island, North Carolina.
