Kerstin Roolfs is a German-American artist whose work engages deeply with themes of portraiture, sports, history, and politics. Her text-based pieces are often informed by the writings and philosophies of influential thinkers such as Plato, Goethe, Sloterdijk, Hölderlin, and Adonis. Through this intellectual lens, Roolfs creates visually striking works that explore the intersection of language, identity, and cultural discourse.
Kerstin received a Master Student Certificate in Fine Arts from the University of Arts in Berlin in the mid-1990s. Shortly after, she was awarded the Promotion of Young Scholars Grant by the City of Berlin, as well as the prestigious DAAD stipend from the German Academic Exchange Service.
Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, Canada, Russia, and Europe, including two museum exhibitions in Germany.
In 1994, Kerstin relocated from Berlin to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, becoming part of New York’s dynamic artistic landscape. Since 2016, she has lived and worked in The Bronx, where she continues to develop a practice rooted in both critical thought and contemporary expression.
